چکیده
The objective of this paper is to investigate the potential added value being able relocate production capacity, relative fixed in a network multiple, geographically distributed manufacturing sites. There growing number examples capacity that can be relocated with modest amount effort; e.g., 3D printers, bioreactors for cell and gene manufacturing, modular units pharmaceutical intermediates. Such capability shows promise enabling fast fulfillment reduction total inventory without sacrificing customer service levels or system resilience. Allowing also transshipment, we model production-inventory L sites Y relocatable develop efficient effective heuristic solution methods dynamic relocation multi-location control, analyze implementation challenges capacity. We describe (L, Y) problem as sequential decision making under uncertainty determine mobile relocation, replenishment decisions at each epoch. To enhance realism, use partially observed stochastic process, modulation exogenous observable forces (e.g., macro-economy) affect demand. then Markov process. Due considerable computational solving exactly, propose two efficient, high quality heuristics. show an instance set five locations mobility case, improve systems performance by much 41% on average over no-flexibility case yield 10% more savings compared when only transshipment permitted.

An analysis of process industry production and inventory management systems
The process industries — those firms that add value by mixing, separating, forming andror chemical reactions by either batch or continuous mode — continue to lag behind the discrete industries in the identification and implementation of Ž . effective production and inventory management P&IM techniques. A contributing factor is that the process industries have traditionally been lumped together ...
متن کاملIntegrating Network Technology with Production Supervision: Low Cost Solution for Managing In-Process Inventory
In context to the manufacturing situation in the shop floor, work-in-process (WIP) management or the in-process inventory and control as the inevitable result of the production process have become the key link of production plan. Due to the growing production requirements and the potential economic benefits of manufacturing process flow, enterprises have been pushed to integrate work-in-process...
متن کاملA New Organizational Structure for the Managing Production Process by Focusing on the Maintenance and Process
This paper describes a new method and somehow different organizational chart for managing production process in the industrial companies such as oil, gas and petrochemical company. Since the maintenance and process department in this type of companies play a significant role in the production, it is crucial and vital to have a proper approach toward these two departments. The last experience in...
متن کاملManaging inventory and production capacity in start-up firms
Successful start-up firms make a valuable contribution to economic growth and development. Models that provide insight into the management of start-up firms are therefore important. We consider the problem of managing inventory and production capacity in a start-up manufacturing firm and argue that for such firms the objective of maximising the probability of the firm surviving is more appropri...
متن کاملAnalysis of two production inventory systems with buffer, retrials and different production rates
This paper considers the comparison of two ðs; SÞ production inventory systems with retrials of unsatisfied customers. The time for producing and adding each item to the inventory is exponentially distributed with rate b. However, a production rate ab higher than b is used at the beginning of the production. The higher production rate will reduce customers’ loss when inventory level appro...
